Melina's Bio

My name is Melina Calles. I was fortunate in being born and raised here in Phoenix, Arizona. I have two parents, and two brothers older than me that had to go through the struggle of migrating to the United States from Mexico at a young age, but through their struggle and hard work they have made it easier for my sister and me to have better life.

I just finished my first year in college, and I was glad to have experienced it at Phoenix College. This August I enrolled back to start my second year, and I am happy to say I am half way through my schooling here because I plan on receiving my Associates in Science this coming May. I plan on transferring to Arizona State University to get my bachelors in Biological Sciences. I then plan on using my bachelors and other requirements I yet have to finish, to get into Medical School. I would love to study the brain, and experience a successful journey in becoming a neurologist. I am aware there is still so much to accomplish before that which is why I am trying my best in staying on track, staying on top, and staying positive.

I consider Phoenix College my second home, part of the reason I do is because I am here at school every day all day. Mainly because I am involved in a few programs here at school, for example I am a STEM Scholar for the STEM Program, and also a cheer leader for the school. Not to mention how I am now a REACH member that I just became a part of not too long ago and of course the S-STEM Program I am now in. I am also I student-worker for the Career Services Department, so it makes a little more sense why I see school as my second home.

Well this is a small portion of my life, where I came from, where I am at and where I plan on going, hopefully this has giving you an idea of who I am. I forgot to add, I am very friendly and love meeting new people but I can be pretty shy it’s a challenge sometimes for me to actually start a conversation, so please I don’t mind you taking the lead! Haha :)
